Things to bring/do while studying abroad in terms of health:
A complete physical examination is performed. Dental and eye care, in particular, are quite expensive in the United States.
Immunisation : Check each university’s list of required vaccines and get started as soon as possible.
Insurance : In order to study at an international university, you must have health insurance. An Indian insurance firm as well as your university might provide you with student health insurance. Purchasing it in India might save you a significant amount of money, up to 80% in some situations. The GoUK team will provide you with personalised, university-specific advice and will answer all of your insurance related questions.
Medicines:
Obtain as many basic medications as you can. In the UK, some of them are very costly. Here’s a list of some essential tablets to have with you
- Gelucil, Zinetac – Indigestion and Gastric Issues
- Erythromycin Throat Infection
- 25 Avil Allergies
- Avomine -vomiting
- Combiflam Toothache –
- Amurtanjan, Crocin, and Vicks – Cold, Headache
- Cyclopam (Stomach Pain)
- Esgypyrin (sprain)
To-do list for booking flight tickets when studying abroad:
- Book your tickets and Visa interview as soon as you receive your I-20 (often in the month of May end/June first week). If at all possible, book a single direct flight.
- Look for other students attending the same university as you on GoUK and form a group to enjoy great discounts on group bookings.
- If you’re one of those people who misses their family a lot (as you will in the first few months), it’s a good idea to arrange a return flight (for December). If you don’t, be prepared to pay a lot of money if you wait until the last minute to book.
Students’ luggage allowance and a to-do list when studying abroad:
- Each check-in bag’s total linear dimensions must be less than 158 cm (62 inches). The total weight can’t be more than 23 kg (50 pound). Again, this varies every flight, but anything between 23 and 24 kilogrammes should suffice.
- One piece of hand luggage, plus a briefcase, laptop, and pocketbook, is permitted. Hand luggage should not weigh more than a specific amount, usually 5 to 10 kg.
- If you’re going with a group of pals, you can divide your luggage among them.
- American Tourister, Samsonite, and VIP are the most popular suitcase brands. The American Tourister is a mid-range hotel with excellent service. Samsonite is a pricey brand.
- Comparing hard and soft cases, there isn’t much of a difference. Stick to soft ones because hard ones can be scratched as well.
- Locks approved by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) are required.
- Make sure you have travel insurance to protect yourself from lost luggage and catastrophes. Speak to a GoUK insurance professional for assistance in selecting your insurance.
Checklist for Clothing and Apparel to Bring for a Study Abroad
- Bring a couple extra pairs of clothes with you because finding a laundry or washing them will be challenging until you get settled in your apartment
- Carry clothing that is appropriate for the place, as the climate in the same nation might vary greatly. GoUK university reviews can give you more information about the weather.
- Blankets, bed sheets, and covers (only if you can’t sleep without one). If your luggage weighs more than the weight restriction, you can skip this step entirely.
- Remember to take your toiletries with you.

To-do list and cooking and food essentials:
Cooking basics such as dal, rice, chapati, and veggies will be taught. Include these items:
- 3- to 7-litre pressure cooker
- Spices and masala
- In case of an emergency, bring some ready-to-cook food.
- The remaining things, like as rice, dal, veggies, utensils, knives, plates, cups, and bowls, are readily available in other countries. They shouldn’t be packed
- Pack a bunch of homemade food (like thepla) that will last for a few weeks.
Electronics and devices to bring with you when you go overseas to study
Electronics are normally less expensive in the United States, although you can get them from India if you want:
- External Hard Drive Disk and Laptop: Bring your own laptop if you have one. It’s possible that you’ll be able to sell it afterwards. Many universities have unique laptop requirements. Make certain you double-check with them.
- Carry a pair of these adapters to charge the electronics you’re bringing from India and avoid cultural shock.
Books to carry with you if you’re going to study abroad
Consult your university’s seniors and only bring the most important books from India with you. For review, get some basic literature.
Documents to bring with you if you want to study abroad:
- Admissions, financial assistance, and forms are examples of university-specific letters.
- I-20 transcripts from the beginning
- Copies of the textbooks
- Certificates of Immunization (specific to university)
- Payment of SEVIS fees
- Photocopies of passports
- Copy of a VISA
- Ticket for Air
- Original scribbles
- Degree certificate attested marksheets
- Report on the project’s final year
- Letters of recommendation
- Mark sheets for the GRE and TOEFL
Carry the following foreign currency while studying abroad:
The majority of students carry around $1000 in cash, with the remainder stored on loaded forex cards. Carry some loose coin with you to make phone calls and eat/drink while on the road.
Because forex cards offer better rates, try putting the majority of your funds on one. If you don’t already have one, GoUK will bring your currency card to your door in one day. It is better to wire money to the university directly for tuition fees.
Share your questions with other GoUK consultants. Connect. There is a separate ‘pre-departure’ section where you may express your questions about this point of your journey or browse through other people’s questions to learn from their experiences. I hope you don’t miss anything significant. Wishing you luck and a safe voyage.
